Com direito a um novo recorde olímpico, o estadunidense Jordan Stolz conquistou a medalha de ouro dos 1.000 metros da patinação de velocidade em pista curta dos Jogos Olímpicos de Inverno.
Nesta quarta-feira (11), em Milão, na Itália, ele superou a marca (1min07seg18) do holandês Gerard Pieter Hendrik van Velde, que perdurava desde 2002, em Salt Lake City.
A prata ficou com o atual vice-campeão mundial, o holandês Jenning de Boo, que fez 1min06seg78, competindo na mesma bateria de Stolz.
O chinês Ning Zhongyan, vice-campeão do mundo em 2024, fez 1min07seg34 e garantiu o bronze.
A vitória de Jordan Stolz pôs fim ao domínio da Holanda na prova. Os patinadores do país haviam vencido as três últimas edições e ainda acumulavam outras duas conquistas.
Stolz se tornou o quinto estadunidense a se sagrar campeão olímpico.
